NOTE: Please book your session at least 7 business days before your chosen date.
The Department of Physics at the University of Alberta offers an outreach program to high schools to bring their Physics 30 students to our labs to perform three experiments. High School Physics Experiments sessions during Winter 2024 run between Dec 11, 2024 and Jan 2, 2025. Individual sessions are offered in either the morning or the afternoon (Other times may be available upon request). Information about the program can be found at: https://www.ualberta.ca/
Booking is based on a first come, first served basis.
Each visit has a duration of three hours, but we are now offering more options for how you want to structure your time, with more start times, and additional activities you may wish to consider. We also invite you to consider combining your trip with two other free activities offered through the Department of Physics:
-
Lectures on current research by Physics professors: https://www.ualberta.ca/
physics/outreach/high-school- physics-talks -
Visits to the Campus Observatory: https://www.ualberta.ca/
physics/outreach/department- of-physics-astronomical- observatory/field-trips
We are still able to move your start time within +/- 30 minutes; just mention that in the “comments” field of your order.
You will be required to complete the University's waiver for each student and teacher attending the event. Please ensure that all students have filled out the attached waiver. Students that do not have a complete waiver will be unable to participate. Please hand these in to your session TA.
A member of the Laboratory teaching team will still contact you within two weeks to confirm your order.
We do our best to accommodate your language of instruction requests but given the limited number of French speaking demonstrators all requests for French speaking sessions are subject to availability. In particular, it can be difficult to schedule two simultaneous French-language sessions. We will confirm all French language sessions by email.
Our online booking/inventory system is unable to provide shared access to sessions (multiple schools with classes fewer than 10 students each). If you have a small class and you know another school that may share the session with you, we encourage you to contact the school/teacher and make arrangements to book one session for both.
If you are a school with fewer than 10 students and require a “partner” school contact us at phystore@ualberta.ca and we will try to match you with another small enrollment school, however, we cannot offer any guarantees.
Please email phystore@ualberta.ca with any other questions using the subject line: High School Physics Experiments - Additional Questions.
