The publication outlines the history of tsymbaly in Alberta, describes the construction of a typical instrument by a modern-day Alberta craftsman, and explores the dynamic characteristics and cultural context of this instrument and its music. The major part of the book is a based on a case study of local tsymaly maker Tom Chychul. The author of the book focuses on technical side of the craft while taking into account such aspects as family tradition, performance, craftsman's lore and marketing strategies.
