Hosted at the Dianne and Irving Kipnes Health Research Institute (previously ECHA) 11405 87 Ave NW, University of Alberta on February 12, 2026 from 6:00-8:30 pm MT facilitated by Dr. Terry De Freitas.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Describe historical features of common knee injuries including ACL, MCL and PCL ruptures
• Describe clinical presentation of acute meniscal tears
• Compare and Contrast presentation and physical findings of ACL tear with PCL tear and Patellar dislocation
• State clinical indications for the diagnostic tests used for acute knee injuries
• Describe at least 2 Knee/Leg injuries which would require urgent ortho consult (within approx. 72 hrs)
• Describe features of an appropriate physical therapy program for common knee injuries
Knee physical exams objectives:
2. Perform at least 2 tests for determining the presence of a knee effusion
3. Perform ligament tests for 4 main knee ligaments with correct hand positions
4. Perform Sag , thumb sign, posterior drawer, then anterior drawer & Lachman
5. Perform cluster of meniscal tests, include at least 4 tests
6. Perform 2 tests for the diagnosis of quadriceps tendon complete tear
7. Perform 2 tests for patellar instability

If the workshop is cancelled by the Office of Lifelong Learning due to low enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances, you will be issued a full refund or have the option of transferring your enrollment to another open session.
