Walter and Anne Sharek
Edmonton: Ukrainian Pioneers' Association of Alberta and Huculak Chair for Ukrainian Culture and Ethnography, 2001

Condition: Used. Lightly worn spine, pages inside in new condition.

The book is an elegantly written family history that traces experiences of several generations of Ukrainian Canadians in Alberta. The account includes the story of family immigration to Canada, pioneering endeavors, the authors' childhood in a farming community. Much attention is dedicated to Walter Sharek's school years, university education and subsequent professional career. Thus the Depression years are reflected through the eyes of a teacher in a small school district in rural Alberta. The events of family life are interwoven into the fabric local history. The memoirs are rich in detail and good sense of humor.
