Level 3: ENGG Camp is your opportunity to really prepare for your first year by tackling real-world Engineering problems with other new and senior students from the Faculty of Engineering.
This two-week virtual program in August will combine academic skills with soft skills. You will work in teams to write reports, prepare presentations, and make prototypes in response to complex engineering challenges.
ENGG Camp is a great chance to engage further in engineering concepts, expand your curiosities and ideas about what it means to be an engineer and meet other soon-to-be first-year engineering students just like you. Each week will include:
- Engineering Challenges: Teams will be presented with a worldly problem that requires the application of high school calculus and physics to propose solutions to real engineering challenges. Students will work together with mentorship from senior engineering students and academic staff to complete research, data analysis, and prototyping before presenting their solutions at the end of the week.
- Skills Sessions: Students will be required to use various software within their engineering degree. Through ENGG Camp, students will have an opportunity to refine old skills and develop new ones in Report Writing in Word, Presentations in PowerPoint, Data Analysis in Excel, Referencing and citations, etc.
- Wellness Sessions: The University of Alberta has many programs and resources to support you as a student. ENGG Camp Wellness sessions are designed to connect you with the offices, people and processes that can help you throughout your university degree. There will be opportunities to meet your professors and key engineering support staff before fall classes begin; develop important academic habits and skills like time management, effective note-taking, goal setting, and self-care techniques; and have your questions answered about academics and mental health through advice from senior students who recently experienced the transition from high school into university and more.
- Guest Speaker Sessions: ENGG Camp will bring together professionals in the engineering world to give you your first bit of experience networking. You will also see the vast spectrum of work engineers do, what it's like to work in the engineering profession, and how to prepare yourself to start your career when you graduate.
When registered within Engg Camp, you'll also have the opportunity to connect directly with a current upper-year engineering student who will provide one-on-one support and advice. Check your UAlberta email for a first contact shortly after registration.
This program is not for university credit.
